What’s in Season in June? A Plant-Based Guide to Summer’s Fresh Start

seasonal produce Jun 01, 2025

June is the month where everything starts to pop - sweet fruits, crisp greens and vibrant veggies finally return in full color. Whether you’re shopping at the farmers’ market or stocking your fridge with intention, eating with the seasons is one of the most powerful ways to align your body with nature’s rhythm.

As a holistic nutritionist and plant-based chef, I always encourage my clients to start with what’s growing now. Seasonal produce isn’t just fresher and more flavorful - it’s more nutrient-dense and often more affordable too.

Here’s what to fill your basket with this month - and a few tips to help you turn your haul into simple, nourishing meals.

🍓 What’s in Season in June?

Fruits:

  • Strawberries 🍓 (yes, the real-deal juicy ones!)

  • Cherries

  • Blueberries

  • Raspberries

  • Apricots

  • Plums

  • Melons (watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew)

  • Lemons & limes

Veggies:

  • Zucchini + yellow squash

  • Cucumbers

  • Snap peas + snow peas

  • Green beans

  • Carrots

  • Beets

  • Radishes

  • Lettuce + leafy greens

  • Fresh herbs (basil, mint, dill, parsley)

Power Picks:

  • Zucchini: Grill it, spiralize it or sauté with garlic and olive oil

  • Strawberries: Add to salads, smoothies or just eat them straight from the basket

  • Cucumbers: Hydrating, cooling and perfect for juice or infused water

  • Beets: Roast for meal prep or grate raw into a summer slaw

🌿 Why Eating Seasonally Matters

Eating seasonally is one of the most natural ways to support your body’s changing needs. In the summer, our bodies crave lighter, hydrating foods and nature provides just that. Fresh fruits and veggies like cucumbers, berries and greens are packed with water, fiber and antioxidants that help you stay cool, energized and glowing.

Bonus? Local seasonal foods haven’t traveled as far, which means they retain more nutrients and support your local farmers and food systems.

🍽 Easy Ways to Use June Produce

  • Make a rainbow salad with leafy greens, radishes, cucumbers and strawberries

  • Blend a refreshing smoothie with berries, a little banana and fresh mint

  • Try a zucchini stir-fry with snap peas, ginger, garlic and coconut aminos

  • Infuse your water with lemon, cucumber and basil for a cooling sip

  • Roast a tray of beets and carrots for easy add-ins throughout the week
